There are two main types of glaciers. Alpine glaciers and continental glaciers. The picture on the left is of Alpine glacier, which are normally only found on mountain terrain. The picture on the right is continental glacier, which cover large areas.

The top of ever glacier is called the accumulation zone because it's the place that recieves the most snowfall. All of the glacier in the picture is part of the accumulation zone. If the camera zoomed out you would see the desposition zone where more ice is lost through melting than gained from the snowfall on top. The point at which the glacier melts to nothing is called the ice front.
